Spring is upon us! The year is already passing by rather quickly. With that being said, it’s easy to get caught up in the everyday hustle and bustle of our jobs, errands, family activities, social gatherings, and everything else that comes with being a homeowner. However, we would hate for you to get caught up with a faulty HVAC system in the heat of spring or summer. You can help prevent residential HVAC system disasters by staying several steps ahead of the game and appropriately preparing your cooling unit season. To make it easier on you, here is a list of tips from your Blue Ash Furnace & Air Conditioning family you can comb through:
Did You Schedule an Appointment for Your Spring Tune-up & Safety Check?
Because this is such an important step, we are placing it at the top of our list. For your HVAC units to function at their best capacity, they need to be checked at least once a year. Just like you take your vehicle into the auto shop to get tuned up and inspected, we recommend doing the same thing for your cooling system. Doing this ensures everything is running smoothly and up to par with safety standards. In addition, keeping up with spring maintenance as recommended will keep your manufacturer’s warranty valid.
Did you Inspect the Air Filters?
As a homeowner, you probably already know the importance of regularly changing your air filters. But we want to stress the importance of this just in case. Generally, your air filter should be changed for a new one every 1-2 months. If you have recently swapped your air filter out, it would not be a bad idea just to double-check that it is still good to go. Pollen and other allergens are common this time of the year, so keep that in mind as we continue through the season.
Did you Inspect the Ductwork?
Ductwork is a major component included in your HVAC system. Therefore, we suggest performing a quick run-through to check any exposed ductwork for holes or leaky joints. Take a notepad with you to write down any areas you find that need to be sealed.
Did you Inspect the Drainage Hole?
It’s easy to forget about the drainage hole sometimes. However, most air conditioning units have a drainage hole for the condensation to drain into. You must check this drainage hole for any dust or particles buildup. The last thing you want is a clogged drainage hole that will result in the condensation being backed and causing a huge mess.
Did you Inspect the Outdoor Unit?
The outdoor unit outside your house needs to be continually checked throughout the next few months to ensure no overgrowth and weeds are obstructing it. Also, make sure no leaves, sticks, or other debris are in its vicinity. It is not unusual for leaves or other buildups to accumulate around or on the unit during the winter months. So be sure this area is clear and ready to go.
Did You Know About Our Service Maintenance Agreement?
If you already have an SMA or Service Maintenance Agreement with us, there are several benefits of having one that you may want to consider. Benefits include two seasonal tune-up & safety checks – one each for both your cooling and heating unit. In addition, the one-time price you pay for the year is factored in as discounted rate. This is a considerable advantage as it is cheaper than paying for the two seasonal tune-up & safety checks separately. As another bonus, our SMA customers also get priority scheduling! If you would like to discuss the SMA plan in more detail, please call us today! All our friendly customer service representatives would be more than happy to provide you with more information.
