Do you know how old your air conditioning unit is? If you have recently moved into your current home and don’t have any paperwork on it, or perhaps you have simply misplaced your records on it somewhere over the past couple of years, no big deal; we can help! It is recommended that homeowners are aware of the age of their air conditioners, as they typically have a lifespan of 15-20 years, depending on maintenance. Although it may seem unnecessary, knowing this information is valuable in case the unit starts to operate less efficiently. Being informed can help you make timely decisions about how to address any issues that arise.
Your Blue Ash Furnace & Air Conditioning team has provided steps that you can use to accurately determine the age of your air conditioning system:
1. TRY LOOKING AT THE CONDENSER’S NAMEPLATE-
The best place to start is by the unit itself – more specifically, on the condenser’s nameplate. You can look for the manufacturer’s date by checking the nameplate located on the side of the condenser, which is the big metal box situated outside your house. The nameplate should be present on the side of the condenser, and typically most models have the manufacturer date listed on the upper right corner of the nameplate.
You should be able to spot the date easily. Look for where it says MFR DATE. Keep in mind, the wording may vary from unit to unit. This information should be spotted fairly easily, but in the case you cannot locate it, it is time to move to step two below.
2. TRY LOOKING ONLINE-
If you’re unable to find the manufacturing date on the HVAC unit, try to look for the brand, model, and serial number on the nameplate instead. You will need this information to look up the manufacture date online. So, quickly jot down these three crucial pieces of info or take a photo of the nameplate (whichever is easier for you). Then, input this information into a search engine along with the words “manufacture date.” The appropriate information should be generated based on your unit’s model. With some luck, you should be provided with detailed instructions on how to decipher your exact unit’s manufacturing date.
