Although paying for energy bills during summer can be unpleasant, it is necessary. Fortunately, you can reduce your energy bill by setting an energy-efficient temperature on your thermostat that will still keep you cool and comfortable throughout the season. Blue Ash Furnace & Air Conditioning can assist you in selecting the most energy-efficient AC temperature for your home.
IS THERE A RECOMMENDED AC TEMPERATURE?
Surprisingly enough, the US Department of Energy recommends setting your thermostat to 78° during the summer for energy efficiency. However, it’s important to note that this may not be the ideal temperature for everyone. It may require some trial and error to find the perfect temperature that’s both comfortable and energy-saving for you and your household.
IS THERE A WAY TO FIND YOUR PERFECT AC TEMPERATURE?
To find the temperature that suits your household, you can use this suggested temperature as a starting point. So, set your thermostat to 78°F, and after a few hours, check if everyone is comfortable. Based on your family’s feedback over the next few days, you can gradually adjust the temperature by increasing or decreasing it one or two degrees at a time. Please keep in mind that homes generally range between 73°F to 79°F, according to the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). Additionally, lowering the temperature on your thermostat can result in higher energy bills, meaning the more you lower the temperature, the more you will pay for it on your energy bill.
IS THERE A TEMPERATURE SETTING THAT SHOULD BE USED WHEN AWAY FROM HOME?
It’s important to set your thermostat properly before going on a summer vacation or trip. You, of course, want to conserve energy while keeping your household items safe without risking humidity damage. So, in order to avoid compromising your plants, collectibles, or other items, set your thermostat temperature by 10 degrees from your usual summer temperature when you’re away.
IS THERE A BETTER THERMOSTAT TO USE?
While traditional thermostats are great tools, smart thermostats can go a long way in helping to reserve energy when needed. With a smart thermostat, you can use your phone to adjust the temperature even when you’re away from home, which is great if you tend to forget to do so before leaving the house. (We wouldn’t blame you because the to-do list before a vacation can be quite taxing!) Similarly, when you own a smart thermostat, adjusting the temperature before returning from vacation is easy and convenient. On top of that, by adjusting the temperature accordingly, you can save energy while you’re away. Sounds like a win to us!
